Hickling is a village and a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The village is 22 miles south-east of Cromer, 20.3 miles north-east of Norwich and 137 miles north-east of London. The village lies 3 miles east of the Broadlands town of Stalham. ~Wikipedia.

 

Some Research

Kelly’s Directory of 1900 shows that the postmaster was James Turner at that time – so that ties in with the store. The 1891 Census places him at the ‘Green’, listing him as a Grocer & Draper and head of the household.  At that time he was 50.  He appears again in the 1901 census, 60 years and again as a Grocer & Draper. I imagine that it is him standing in the doorway.
